"Thibbatu: A Deterrent Berry" 

Thibbatu,” a short film produced by OVP training participant Deepani Jayantha of Born Free Foundation, advocates cultivating cash crops which are not subjected to elephant crop predation, and can therefore offset many of their losses. 

Thibbatu will be screened to farmers of Kiwulewadiya in Laggala-Pallegama and to local nongovernmental organizations and community based organizations that work on HEC.

"Your Rights, Your Future: Preparing for Reentry"




OVP collaborated with the Legal Action Center, a not-for-profit law firm and policy organization, to produce “Your Rights, Your Future”, a DVD that gives people leaving prison the skills and knowledge necessary to find jobs and prepares them for the challenges they may face in the reentry process
.     

"Your Rights, Your Future" will be distributed to institutions and organizations in New York State that work with people who are formerly incarcerated.

Sri Lanka Visual Media Advocacy Project Foundational Training

From February 8th to February 20th, OVP conducted the Sri Lanka Visual Media Advocacy Project Foundational Training in Colombo 15.  Representatives from 13 civil society organizations working in Sri Lanka attended the training.  

Dumped

At the end of the training, participants completed and publicly screened five mini-productions focusing on social justice issues faced by people living in Weligodawatte as well as on the challenges and resources available to people living with HIV in Sri Lanka.

Over the next four months OVP will be collaborating with four participants in the completion and distribution of video productions that will support their advocacy work. 

The advanced training will be held from July 5th to July 10th in Colombo.

On October 8th OVP hosted a gathering of friends/supporters for a presentation of re cent OVP video projects, a private viewing of "Status Report," an exhibition of contemporary artists that highlight Mexican immigration, the border, and labor rights in justice, music mixed by Ben Tausig and … free wine!

 "AOM 2.0 Integrating Info-Activism in People's Campaigns" 

From July 30- August 1 OVP staff will be collaborating with a number of media and social justice organizations to provide short seminars on visual media advocacy production as part of the three day digital media AOM 2.0 info-camp in Cebu City.  The camp is hosted by The Computer Professionals' Union (CPU), DigiActive.Org, Kodao Productions, and Harakati-Asia.

Visual Media Advocacy Training in collaboration with the University of the Philippines, Mindanao 

The training, running from April 27th to May 9th, covered visual literacy, pre-production, advocacy and distribution strategies, as well as production a nd post-production techn ical training.  NGO re presentatives and anthropology students worked in groups to complete 5-7 minute mini-productions that were both shot and screened on site at Isla Verde, Davao City.

"Your Rights, Your Future: Preparing for Reentry"

OVP and Legal Action Center have finished production on our collaborative DVD project, "Your Rights, Your Future: Preparing for Reentry".  Post-production is scheduled for summer 2009. 

This 45-minute DVD  will g ive people leaving prison t he skills an d knowledge necessary to find a job, prepare them for challenges they may face in the process, and give them encouragement through the stories of other people with criminal records who have achieved success.

LAC and OVP Collaboration
We have been able to move further on our collaboration with New York City's Legal Action Center (LAC), for a joint project on prisons in the state of New York. The project proposal in its current form has been approved and we are now preparing to translate parts of the proposal into a list actions for our pre-production and production stages.
